And as sad as it makes me feel these totally virtual worlds are probably way beyond our time. Being a Biology major who has a high focus on genetics/evolution you're 100% right. I don't believe there will every be a point when Humans won't want companionship whether or not its with a mate or a friend. We have higher brain powers beyond any other species on this planet but no matter what we will always have that "reptilian brain" that controls breathing, heart rate, and of course the desire to pass on our genes. The whole purpose of life for most organisms is to pass on their genes to the next generation, and while we obviously have the brain power to want more with our lives, we ultimately want the same thing at some point.
