Elephants Posturing – Friday Travel Photo

Elephants Posturing - South Luangwa - Zambia

Two young males posturing and playing king of the mountain near a small watering hole during our Safari in South Luangwa while in Zambia with Shenton Safaris.

There were three in total that took turns posturing, wrapping trunks, pressing heads together and assuming this dominant position with their tunks in the air. Eventually the male visible in this photo ended up winning the contest after intimidating his competition.

  1. Did you yourself take this photo of two elephants in Zambia? The photographer has a good shot! You could send this picture in any photography contest. It is really amazing, balance and perfectly captured!

    1. Thank you! It really was a spectacular moment. Especially because it was occurring on the other side of a small lagoon that was full of birds, hippo families, and crocodiles which really added to the ambiance.
