See My Photo in National Geographic Nordics This Month

As an aspiring photographer and lifelong traveler there is one organization that, above all others, has fueled my imagination since I was a young boy. The images of majestic animals, exotic peoples, and grand cultural undertakings are part of the foundation which crafted the traveler I am today. Even in the modern digital age where most magazines are relegated to the end table at the dentist’s office or car dealership waiting room, National Geographic stands apart. Their more recent forays into digital have led to the sourcing and democratization of a process which brings to light captivating and inspiring photos on a regular basis – a process I consider myself extremely lucky to have been able to partake in.

So, it is probably no big surprise that one of my goals when I got into travel photography was to have my work recognized (and shared) by National Geographic.  In 2011, my photo of the passport office, perched on a dock over the coast, in Tierra del Fuego at “The end of the world” was featured as part of National Geographic.com’s daily dozen. Today, I’m thrilled to share that National Geographic Nordics has selected my photo of the rising moon over Ouray in Colorado as the user submitted photo of the month. Not only has the photo been singled out on their website, but it will also appear in the print edition of National Geographic throughout the Nordic countries.

When I started my photographic journey, I could never have imagined that it would progress this far. It has been an exciting, at times frustrating, and ever engaging process. One which has not only led to capturing wonderful moments and the ability to share them. It has also re-framed how I see and relate to the world around me. Some complain that those of us who see the world through the lens of a camera miss things. A sentiment I find grossly misunderstands just how attuned I am to the moment and the power of observation that having a camera in hand hones.

As I continue my photographic journey (A collection of photos from Jutland in Fall which I’m very excited about are currently on the way) thank you so much for your continuous support, feedback, and viewership. It is your kind words and input which inspires me to improve my craft and to spend the hours upon hours it takes to shoot, edit, and post content.

The photo was edited in Lightroom and shot on my Canon 600D with a Canon 55-250mm lens. It was taken at f5.6, 1/400m and ISO 200.
