Autumn In Jutland – Weekly Travel Photo

There is a special window each year. A window of time ever so fleeting and hard to track. It is never the same day, week, or month. Ever in flux it varies from valley to glen, coast to fjord. In places like Arizona it is nearly non-existent except in the high country and yet in Denmark the amber hues of fall and rich colds of autumn gradually spread across the landscape like a freshly fallen layer of snow.

It is something that is not talked about much, something that is taken for granted. It is a pity really, since it is one of Denmark’s least discussed wonders. There’s something mesmerizing about the country’s rich green fields atop gently rolling hills, all devoid of fences or power lines, and with great forests sporadically scattered across much of Jutland, the country’s mainland.

As I sat upon a damp covering of leaves that nearly completely obscured the rural path beneath me I fiddled with the settings on my camera. My attention darting back and forth from my camera to the trees, tracking their slight motion and seeking the enthralling sight of golden-red leaves drifting slowly to the forest floor. The road curved away before me, while the leaves gave way to a rich green lichen and moss covered forest floor to my right. The contrast between the greens to the side of me and the golds, reds, and yellows before me added to the magic of the moment.

Oh, fall. You are evasive and hard to track … but when found are like a glorious Pegasus. Some wild and mystical beast perpetually in motion and the stuff of dreams, fantasies and legends.
