Cambodia in 20 Instagram Photos

I’m currently hard at work sorting through the 4,000+ images I snapped during my visit to Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. However, while the final “National Geographic Standard” shots are starting to go up on flickr (view them here) I’ve been posting Instagram edits taken during the trip. For those that follow my photography, for Instagram I post unique images, a blend of dSLR and iPhone 6 captured shots and/or HDR edits of the photos you’d see on flickr in a more true-to-life format. Visited a village built on high stilts along the flood plane. Very odd experience. On the one hand, great tour and fascinating insight into aspects of Cambodian culture. On the other hand a very classic case of uncomfortable white/1st world tourist imperialism. Walking through the midst of what is obviously a very poor community, watching and photographing people. Meanwhile most of the money paid to the tour and guides probably never touches the community, which is obviously very poor. Reminded me of sitting up high in a land cruiser rolling through poor areas of Zambia. Still – fantastic visit and insightful.

I spent the day wandering around Angkor Wat, in so doing I fulfilled a childhood dream. This place has always captivated my imagination and in many ways has lived up to my expectations.

Angkor Wat earlier today. Straight out of a movie. Apparently once a month 3,000 monks descend on the temple complex for the weekend in a tithing ceremony. Some days better to be lucky than good.
